Software System Safety Working Group

Companies building safety-critical systems are finding themselves in the position of coping with new problems introduced by computers and digital technology. Software allows unprecedented levels of complexity and new failures modes, both of which are starting to overwhelm the standard approaches to ensuring safety.

Mission Statement : To provide forums for the sharing of information about system safety among practitioners from all industries involved in the creation, regulation, or use of software-intensive systems.

Our first activity was a kickoff meeting at MIT on Febrary 27-28, 2001. You may view the agenda and presentation slides from the invited speakers. We had a second meeting with submitted papers in February, 2002. Our third meeting, which will be held February 25-27, 2003, will be more of a ``work'' shop. To find out more about the next meeting, click here.

The group has an email list. To subcribe, send mail to Nancy Leveson (leveson "at" mit.edu).
